How can I use curiosity to sell?

A few months ago I was at an open house and a gentleman named Mike walk in and fell in love with the house. He looked around for about 10 minutes and then said “This is a terrible time to buy a house”

The real estate agent said to him, “There’s no better time to buy than now!” The man Michael rolled his eyes and laughed, You agents always say that! All you think about is the sale!

I took a breath and asked Mike a question. Mike, I’m curious why is it a terrible time to buy a house? He looked me straight in the eye and said “I’m going to have to sell my house to buy this one and I don’t know if the sellers will wait!

When the agent assumed what mike meant she missed the mark and caused Mike to react with an attack.

When I paused and asked a question (Curiously Investigating) to gain clarity mike paused too, and gave us everything we needed to know and told us exactly what the problem he wanted to have solved.

Why don’t your clients come back?

I just had a call from a sales person and he said something I did not understand.

Have you ever been in a conversation with someone and what they said didn’t make any sense? And you think to yourself, “this guy needs sales training”, he needs “sales training techniques” and he needs them now!

Well I want to suggest to you, in the sales industry and in life this happens every day. And sales people miss it!
We miss it because we don’t have a way to get feedback in real time for lost sales opportunities.
The curiosity is a method to dance in conversation in real time and see whats happening as it unfolds.

What would your life look like if you could dance in conversations and get what you need as well as serve those you interact with in the moment versus replay the mistakes later  and loose the opportunities, and then kick yourself because the answer was so easy, you just missed it.

I was 17 when I decided to get serious about my life

 

When I decided to get serious about my life the first time I was 17, I had just graduated from High School and by some amazing miracle I got accepted to go to SDSU

The big leagues

I was so proud of myself. I knew exactly what I was going to do. I loved music and people, so I made the choice to pursue music as a dream and psychology as a backup.

I remember registration day.
There was a table outside and lots of eager kids just like me ready to take on their next step in life. I had all my paperwork filled out, I did have questions but I felt confident I could get help.

I was next in line. I stepped up to the person handed them my packet and smiled as I waited instructions, she said “Your Money” I looked surprised and got real confused. What money I asked. Tuition, she said with a smile. I said “I thought school is free”, turns out I was wrong.

I was confused and maybe a little embarrassed but still very happy and excited.

Locked-In & Focused

 

Last night I had a dream, I was at a party and someone took my phone to play music. They couldn’t get music to play and after a few seconds I grabbed the phone back and tried to fix the problem. But just like they said the screen was locked. Everybody was looking at me but I didn’t panic. I was getting frustrated. I hit the round iPhone button but nothing happened. So, I swiped up, then I swiped sideways, I hit the butting on the top side to shut down the phone - but nothing still. The problem was easy to see, the screen was locked!!!

Then I noticed there were a lot of extra buttons on my phone

I noticed it was longer and skinnier than my phone

Then.....

I noticed it was a TV Remote
